Kidnapped MLA releasedRuling Communist Party of India-Marxist legislator and former minister Purno Mohan Tripura, who was kidnapped by the National Liberation Front of Tripura guerillas on October 15, was released on Monday in a jungle at Kanchanpur in north Tripura. Sources said the militants had to release him, following pressure from security forces and local people, who have been continuing search operations for the last three months. Tripura was the third MLA to be kidnapped by the militants. Earlier, CPI-M's Pranab Debbarma was kidnapped. He was released after 11 months. Another tribal MLA and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura leader Debabrata Koloi, kidnapped by the NLFT on July 31 last year, still remains untraced. UNI |
