BJP calls for state bandh on MondayThe Bhartiya Janata Party has decided to observe a 'Uttar Pradesh bandh' on Monday to demand the immediate removal of state Governor Romesh Bhandari. Announcing this at a press conference, state BJP president Rajnath Singh said the manner in which Bhandari had installed Jagdambika Pal as the chief minister following the dismissal of the Kalyan Singh government was "unparliamentary, undemocratic and against the norms of parliamentary practices." The Kalyan Singh government was deliberately denied the opportunity to prove its majority on the floor of the House. This was deplorable on the state governor's part, he added. Former chief minister Kalyan Singh, senior ministers Lalji Tandon, Omprakash Singh, Kalraj Misra and Rajnath Singh will stage a dharna during the bandh. The party will also launch a relay fast at all the district headquarters from February 24. UNI
