Producer Vijay Sippy found dead

Suparn Verma in Bombay

Bollywood producer Vijay Sippy was found dead behind Urvashi building in Malabar Hill in south Bombay, where he lived, on Friday morning. Sippy is believed to have been murdered.

Vijay Sippy, 55, son of Sholay producer G P Sippy, has produced films like Hamesha and Aatish, both directed by Sanjay Gupta.

Inspector S V Kshirsagar said natural causes were ruled out in the death going by the multiple wounds on Sippy's body. The right hand and forearms were broken and his back was covered with scratches. "This could have been caused by him being dragged around on falling down on the concrete road," the inspector said.

Sippy's body was identified by one of his family friends. The producer's family had lodged no report when Sippy failed to return home.

The police avoided comment on the motive for the murder. The watchman and the residents of the colony have been questioned. The post-mortem report is awaited.

Vijay Sippy is the brother of Ramesh Sippy. Family members were unavailable for comment.
