We only talk, but do nothing. There is no sense in just talking about Agni and others. In fact, why should we talk at all? What do we achieve just saying our option are open? It will be better for India if our leaders do not talk at all but secretly accelerate our nuclear programmes.

I am also an employee/individual, but an absence of 3 to 4 months of any employee without any application of leave is simply not agreeable as the company suffers for it, and so does productivity. The employer cannot wait till eternity for the absentee to turn up, I think this decision should be revoked. As simple as that.

It's bull shit. At the time when we should think about getting in pace with our other counterparts in rest of the world, these people are taking us behind. I do not mind respecting the sentiments of the particular community in concern (which I myself, am a part of), but it's time we thought in a broader perspective.

These things are not going to give us anything except anarchy in social life, and discontent among various parts of our society which interestingly includes not only Hindus but other religions also. Please VHP, we need equality in all the religions but that does not mean we do it by wrong means.

Let's pursue your political counterparts (BJP) to stop appeasing their corrupt allies (AIADMK) and change the common perception in the system to deal with different religions differently.

Subject: Expatriate Tamils keep the Eelam flame burning in London

Do we have a choice?

The real problem in Sri Lanka (a Sinhalese Buddhist country) is the Sinhalese politicians (party leaders). Their main goal is winning the 'next election.' So, always the opposition party is against any agreements made by the ruling party.

In the last 50 years, about ten agreements were made between the Tamil leadership and the Sri Lanka's ruling party (only) and all those agreements failed because the Opposition party was against the agreement. At times they even tore the agreement in front of the public. By doing this that party win the next election.

Even the present government in Sri Lanka was against and rejected the 1987 Indo-Lanka pact made to solve the Tamil problem (and today they are in power). If this present government makes any agreement with Tamils, the opposition will reject it and will propose new solutions.

Their main aim is winning an election, staying in power and making money. This is the reason why Tamils (means Tigers) don't trust Sinhalese parties anymore. The Sinhalese must accept that the Tamils in Sri Lanka have the right to self-determination. The Sinhalese must learn about the constitution of other nations. About the states in USA, the provinces in Canada, the countries in UK.

Solving the Sri Lankan problem is easy. Sri Lanka's ruling party (which has about 40% Sinhalese support), Opposition party (which also has about 40% of Sinhalese support) and Tamil Tigers (over 90% of Tamils supports them) have to sit and talk. Once they reach an agreement, that's the end of the war.

If the superpowers cannot make these three parties come together, I doubt their superpower? They only condemn the bombing incidents in Colombo, but almost every day Tamils are killed by aerial bombing and the superpowers never condemn those incidents (because those incidents are not reported on CNN).

Now, the US government trains the Sri Lankan forces and Sri Lankan forces kill innocent Tamils, rape women (recently a 10-year-old child and a deaf woman), destroys temples, churches, schools, houses etc.. Sri Lankan government's main weapons are:

1. Medicine

2. Food

3. Aerial bombing

4. Shelling.

But the Tamil Tigers are fighting with the Sri Lankan forces (getting medicine, food and weapons with great difficulty) with no superpowers supporting them. The reason is the support of millions of Tamils.

As a person living overseas, I can say with confidence that LTTE collects money through extortion from Sri Lankan Tamils overseas. Whatever Mr Selva thinks, it's time to realise that they are fighting for a lost cause.

As a result of the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, they can expect no sympathy from Indians in general and Indian Tamils in particular. The Tamil cause in Sri Lanka can be saved only if their leader gives up and is tried on Indian soil for the assassination.

So the Sri Lankan Tamils (both overseas and in Sri Lanka) have to make a choice between their love for Tamil culture and the LTTE leadership.

Subject: Abdul Nasser Madani and the PDP

I have some questions to ask of this guy and all other "leaders" of Muslims -- why do they expect that non-Muslims should go out of their way to promote the narrow religious interests of the mullah types? Why is the Muslim League not branded as communal, but the BJP is? The destruction of temples (which are not in disuse as the Babri mosque was) in Kerala is not barbaric, but the demolition of the Babri mosque is?

Why is it that Hindus should constantly apologise about being the majority? All these so-called leaders are only interested in keeping their community backward so that they can paint non-Muslims as rapacious marauders. Why are they so keen that Muslim children study in madarsas, where they do not have the opportunity to receive a modern education?

Why are outdated concepts which find a place in the holy Koran foisted upon young minds? Why are these "leaders" so keen to make Muslims "Muslim" as opposed to "Indian"? Why, for god's sake, can't the they out of their narrow mind sets, and encourage their community to be a vibrant part of the mainstream, and try to contribute to the nation which has been so kind to them?

If Madani and his ilk have the good of the community in mind, I say to them, open the doors of your mind, and please work towards providing your community a modern education.

This guy has the audacity to say he wants to stop the BJP from coming to power, but why? Because for the simple reason that it is a Hindu party. Just shows how secular India is. The majority is given a raw deal. If India has to survive at all, we have to be Indians and Indians alone.

Thanks very much!

Subject: From one regular reader of the Rediff sports section

My name is Swaminathan and I am working as a software engineer in HP, Singapore. I have been a regular reader of your sports section and I am your ardent fan to say the least. I would like to know that the articles and view points you are expressing, does it reach the concerned persons ears or eyes?? I feel given the dumbness of the higher authorities in BCCI, it will be difficult even if someone sits inside their ears and shouts at the top of their voice. To say, their selections are illogical, senseless etc is an understatement.

In the fitness of things, the fitness aspect comes to their rescue every time a player is dropped for display of good sporting skills. The dropping of Venkatesh Prasad (Ceat cricketer of the Year) clearly indicates this.

And coming to speak of Rahul Dravid, I hope he doesn't become one more Sanjay Manjrekar, the reasons they give for dropping is still more irritating. I tend to get a feeling that even my grandfather has much more cricketing sense and knowledge than the selectors sitting out there deciding the fate of upcoming young cricketers and also those established. They are successful in making a mess out of everything and anything given to them.

The thing that is lacking is "ACCOUNTABILITY." It is high time somebody took note of it and made them accountable. But the point is who will tie the bell? I am sorry and sad to say that, they had always found a loophole to make themselves come out of pits, like making their post honorary to free themselves from the shackles of unaccountability. I think that the BCCI certainly needs an iron man with hands of steel to save it from the ghostly hands called "selectors."

The article is nonsensical. To speculate and gossip that Vajpayee changed his mind at the last moment at the behest of a Swayamsevak who was remote controlled by an Industrial house is absurd. A poor country which has serious business at hand is wasting its focus and concentration by aping the past time of relaxed nations.

Small talks and mindlessness are equally distributed throughout the world, but in India to entertain these tamashas in journalism and Lok Sabha by irresponsible persons at this time is perversion. Our film industry is already degraded beyond recovery and can no more reflect the country's culture or values and for that matter any country's values, which also started with gossips and small talks. Why can't we limit the poison of denigration to Bollywood for some times, at least?

Very interesting. For this type of articles, I like to open a new folder and save the article with the images separately. The images, in large format (a good feature), are then used as a screen saver and enjoyed over and over as they cycle across the screen while the computer is idle.

Help me.... I have the same problem. By religion I am Jain, but I married to a Christian girl. We know each other very well. I am a software engineer, presently I am working in the USA. My wife is also a software engineer, but she is working at Bangalore. She will be joining me shortly.

But my community people are trying to kill her. I am in a helpless situation. I don't know what to do? Whom to approach ? I am in the USA and she is back in INDIA.
