Akshay Kumar is celebrating his 53rd birthday on September 9 in Scotland, where he is shooting his next film, Bell Bottom.

For someone who is used to seeing three or four releases every year, 2020 will go down as a rare one with just one or two releases.

We celebrate Akshay's birthday by looking back at his top 20 blockbusters over the years.

Joginder Tuteja lists them, in the first part of this special.

Housefull 4: Rs 208.50 crore
Housefull 3: Rs 109 crore
Housefull 2: Rs 116 crore

The Housefull series is the biggest success story for Akshay Kumar in the last decade.

The four installments in this Sajid Nadiadwala franchise may not have fared well among critics, but audiences gave them the thumbs up.

Housefull 4 is Akshay's biggest grosser ever.

Good Newwz: Rs 205.14 crore

Last year went really well for Akshay, as he continued to break his records.

Good Newwz turned out be yet another double century for the superstar.

Mission Mangal: Rs 203 crore

Playing across genres, Akshay has changed his image from an actor who was either seen in action or comedy.

He picked up a space story, and gave a free hand to the women in it.

Yet another major blockbuster.

2.0 (Hindi): Rs 189.55 crore

A sci-fi affair, 2.0 saw Akshay turn antagonist for Rajinikanth, who was returning with the sequel to his hit film, Robot.

It's the most expensive film ever made in Indian cinema and so the recovery from the Hindi version was of paramount importance.

It missed entering the Rs 200 crore club, but still covered a good distance.

Kesari: Rs 154.41 crore

A tale of courage and valor, Kesari found good response from audiences over the months.

Its song Teri Mitti has become an anthem when it comes to patriotic songs.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha: Rs 134.25 crore

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was an experiment that could have gone either way.

Still, the actor went ahead with conviction.

Result: A clear superhit.

Rowdy Rathore: Rs 133 crore

Akshay made a dhamaka with Rowdy Rathore, an out and out massy set-up, directed by Prabhu Deva.

The film had action, romance, emotion, comedy, drama... all the ingredients for a hit masala movie.

The masses blew the whistles the loudest.

Airlift: Rs 129 crore

Airlift may have been a risky move, since the subject warranted a docudrama appeal.

But Akshay made sure he put the money where the mouth was.

The film packed in a lot of patriotism and brought in the audiences.

Rustom: Rs 128 crore

The Nanavati case has intrigued Indians over the decades and so, it's not surprising that Akshay picked it up and instilled a strong dose of patriotism in it.

Jolly LLB 2: Rs 117 crore

It was fun to watch Akshay play Jolly in the second installment of the series, directed by Subhash Kapoor.

As is the trend with most of Akshay's recent films, this had a strong dose of patriotism too.
