The Bachchan family invited the media to their office in Janak, in the posh Mumbai suburb of Juhu, to make an announcement on Saturday morning -- they wish to donate Rs 25 lakh to Plan India, a charitable organisation that works for the girl child.
While they spoke at length about their nobel deed, we captured the family in their various moods. Here, Aishwarya shares a laugh with husband Abhishek.

On the other hand, the older Bachchans -- Amitabh and Jaya -- put on their serious faces for the occasion.

Not for long, of course.
Jaya blushes Amitabh gestures at the camera, and Abhishek steals a look at his gorgeous wife Ash.

On Amitabh's 70th birthday, the Bachchans had launched a book called B Seventy, which has paintings by 70 renowned painters. Each painting has an interesting caption about Amitabh's different roles and his contribution to the Indian cinema.
Now, the family wishes to donate Rs 25 lakh (from the proceeds of the book sales) to an NGO dedicated to the cause of the girl child, since Amitabh shares his birthday with the International Day of the girl child.
Filmmaker Govind Nihalani and Bhagyashri Dengle -- representatives of Plan India -- joined the Bachchans at the press conference.

"The idea was conceptualised by Jaya and we have decided to donate the profits we've made from the sale of the book. We have donated 25 lakh so far and will continue doing so," Amitabh said at the press conference.

"The whole Bachchan family firmly stands behind the cause," the Big B said.
Jaya added that they are willing to donate to any other legitimate organisation that helps children, especially the girl child.

"The girl child should not be celebrated just on an allocated day that coincides with my father's birthday. We should celebrate her everyday," said Abhishek.
Aishwarya added: "It is the birth right of every child -- irrespective of gender -- to get opportunities for growth. We are taking up the cause of the girl child, as she has silently suffered discrimination and atrocities over the ages."
