Just how much money did the debuts of Bollywood's current superstars make?

Who had the biggest money-spinning debut and who did not?

Joginder Tuteja looks back at the first ever movies of Bollywood's stars and finds out.

Collections not adjusted for inflation.

Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas
Karan Deol and Sahher Bammbba

Sunny Deol's son Karan Deol was launched in Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, along with newcomer Sahher Bambba.

The verdict is out, and the only silver lining is that it opened better than the other two releases, The Zoya Factor and Prassthanam.

Dhadak (2018)
Ishaan Khattar and Janhvi Kapoor
Box office collection: Rs 74.19 crore

The record for the best recent opening was scored by Karan Johar's production Dhadak, a remake of the Marathi blockbuster Sairat.

Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khattar and Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor were launched in this musical romantic drama that did not just open well but also ended up as a clean hit.

Hero (2015)
Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty
Box office collection: Rs 33.50 crore

When producer Salman Khan and director Nikkhil Advani joined hands to launch Aditya Pancholi's son Sooraj opposite Suniel Shetty's daughter Athiya, there was a lot of buzz in the trade.

The results were good, as the film took a relatively good opening number for a newcomer film.

But the film could not sustain well and did not enjoy a long run.

Heropanti (2014)
Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon
Box office collection: Rs 53 crore

When Sajid Nadiadwala announced that he would be picking up the responsibility of launching Jackie Shroff's son Tiger with Heropanti, all eyes turned to see how the second generation actor would turn be on screen.

Kriti Sanon made her Bollywood debut here as well.

Heropanti opened well and sustained as well.

Student of the Year (2012)
Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt
Box office collection: Rs 70 crore

Karan Johar's Student Of The Year successfully launched the careers of Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt.

It did so well that it spawned a sequel as well, and introduced Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria.

Ishaqzaade (2012)
Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra
Box office collection: Rs 48 crore

Arjun Kapoor made his debut in Ishaqzaade, opposite Parineeti Chopra.

A modern day adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, the film was a good success.

Vicky Donor (2012)
Ayushmann Khurranna and Yami Gautam
Box office collection: Rs 41 crore

When Ayushmann Khurranna made his debut with John Abraham's production Vicky Donor, not many would have guessed that a few years down the line, he would emerge as one of the hottest young stars in B-town.

Vicky Donor opened on a decent note and sustained well enough to emerge as a clean hit.

Yami Gautam made her Bollywood debut with this.

Saawariya (2007)
Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor
Box office collection: Rs 23 crore

Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor had no luck when they debuted in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya.

The film was one of the most hyped launch vehicles but it proved to be a non-starter.

It prospects were further sealed when Shah Rukh Khan released Om Shanti Om on the same day.

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000)
Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel
Box office collection: Rs 45 crore

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai made a huge splash when it released in 2000.

The songs were chartbusters, and the world fell in love with Hrithik Roshan's charm and Ameesha Patel's cuteness.

Rakesh Roshan's film refused to slow down and emerged as an all time blockbuster.

Refugee (2000)
Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor
Box office collection: Rs 17 crore

A few months after Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Refugee opened even bigger.

The first day collections of the JP Dutta film were three times as much and it seemed like another blockbuster opening for a film featuring newcomers.

Though it did not cover a major distance, Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor were appreciated for their performance.
