'Expressing a character through couture and craftsmanship requires a kind of brilliance that goes beyond talent.
'Abu Sandeep persisted on dressing Devdas in white Chikan because to them, he was far from a black character. They wanted to express his heartbroken state through the pristine aura of Chikankari where hand-embroidery and minimal ornaments were thoughtfully used to convey his pride, rage and despair. Even specific washing techniques were employed to clearly reflect the freshness and luxury of Chikan on-screen.
'A year later, Abu Sandeep were honoured with the National Award for Costume Design for their work in Devdas and Chikankari was a noteworthy part of their journey.'
