What makes Yash Chopra tick

August 31, 2006
It's been a good year for Yash Chopra.

His production, Fanaa, is one of the big hits of 2006. The other huge hits, Krrish and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, were distributed by Yash Raj Films.

He was honoured by the prestigious BAFTA film festival, and has been made an honorary lifetime member.

His forthcoming film, Kabul Express, will premiere at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival in September.

"Yes, it's been a good year," Chopra smiles. "But one cannot rest on one's laurels. We have to be on our toes all the time."

Mr Yash Chopra and I are sitting in a cozy-looking room in his state-of-the-art studio in Mumbai's suburban Andheri. The studio looks beautiful with its green lawns, modern buildings and paintings of his film scenes on the walls.

But its owner remains modest even though he is one of the most powerful producers in the industry today. He stands up to greet you, gives a very friendly smile, waits till you sit before he sits down himself.
