Bollywood had a strong presence at the recently concluded Cannes film festival. Quite a few Indian stars walked the red carpet, with varying degrees of success.

Aishwarya Rai and Vidya Balan had the most appearances at the festival.

Take a look at the other Indian stars on the Cannes red carpet, and tell us if YOU think they got it right.

VOTE for your favourite dresser at the end of the slide show.

Sonam Kapoor

L'Oreal brand ambassador Sonam Kapoor looked striking in her dramatic Dolce & Gabbana gown, with jewellery by mum Sunita, at the screening of the French drama Jeune et Jolie (Young And Beautiful) at the Palais des Festivals.

Her full-skirted floral gown added just the right amount of glamour to the high profile event.

Dressed in a haute couture sari by Anamika Khanna, Sonam looked ethereal on the red carpet as she arrived to attend the opening ceremony that was kicked off by the premeire of Baz Lurhmann's The Great Gatsby.

The actress's deep red lipstick, a loose braid and dramatic eye makeup complemented her glamorous desi outfit.

But it was her massive nose ring that hogged all the attention.

Later, Sherlyn changed into a white lehenga-choli and gold jewellery, at the screening of Italian film, La Grande Bellezza, at the Grand Theatre Lumiere.

Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto sparkled in her custom Gucci gown in hot pink and a gorgeous beaded belt on the red carpet, as she arrived for the opening ceremony.

The actress rounded off the look with a side updo and Chopard jewels. Light make-up and a tiny floral ring added just the right touch to the whole look.

Later, Freida looked very fashionable in a sparkly beaded gown from Indian designer Sanchita, as she walked in for the Juene et Jolie screening.

A wavy side updo and red lips rounded off the look perfectly. The actress's gown showed off her toned legs and back.

Ameesha Patel

Ameesha Patel was spotted in a Manish Malhotra lehenga in elegant colours, as she posed for the Shortcut Romeo portrait session.

Ameesha later took to the red carpet in a graceful Manish Malhotra creation. Her embroidered lehenga came as a welcome respite from the Sabyasachi flood at Cannes but she could have done better with the makeup.

Puja Gupta

Former Miss India Puja Gupta, who was last seen in Go Goa Gone, accompanied Ameesha Patel to the premiere of All is Lost.

The young actress looked fetching in her Gauri & Nainika gown.

Mallika Sherwat

Mallika Sherawat dialed it down on the red carpet with a conservative gold gown, a gold clutch and diamond and gold jewellery.

Mallika continued to surprise us with her refined sartorial choices on the Cannes red carpet. Dressed in a full-skirted Dolce & Gabbana number, the actress attended the Inside Llewyn Davis premiere.

Complementing her gothic dress, the actress went easy on her eye makeup and kept things bright by adding a natural shade of lip colour.

Jury member Nandita Das attended the 'Jury Cinefondation' photocall in a very cheery yellow salwar kameez.

The colour beautifully complemented the actress.

Actress Nimrat Kaur, whose film The Lunchbox was screened at the festival, wore a Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla creation for a media event.

She wore a sari finished with a beaded gota border and teamed it with an organza gota dot blouse.

Tejaswini Kolhapure

Actress Tejaswini Kolhapure, whose film Ugly was screened at the festival, attended the Juene et Jolie screening in a black strapless Pria Kataria Puri outfit.

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan arrived at the photocall of his first Hollywood project, Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

Unfortunately, what he chose to wear to the event was more talked about than what he said or did there.

Dressed in a striped jacket, white trousers and white shoes, the legend's appearance was a far cry from his usually impeccably suited look and stuck out like a sore thumb amidst well tailored, simple suits/jackets worn by other men in the group.

We wonder why the superstar loves his bizarre jackets.
