Here's what your favourite Bollywood celebrities are tweeting.
Several Bollywood actors and filmmakers have come forward in support of Kamal Haasan's new film Vishwaroopam. While Shah Rukh Khan condemned the ban at a press conference in Mumbai, Salman Khan took to Twitter to ask his fans to watch the film.
Salman Khan: 'Censor board has passed it too naaa. Sure. 100% gonna see it. Dekho yaar its a movie n thr r only 2 kinds of movies good or bad. hit n flop N only people who decide r 1s who buy tickets. Hope each n every fan of his supports him like I am doing n want all my fan to fully support him. Bhool gaye kya ek doojeh ke liyeh. Then go stand out side the cinema hall n insist on seing the film, its a movie dude , entertainment, wat law n order problem on a movie? Go thr insist that u wanna c it , thr is a supreme court judgment after the film is censored no body can stop it. Ek toh the industry does not get any support frm any 1 but the fans bus tax pe tax. Now they stopping the releases of our movies. Wah .'
Abhishek Bachchan: 'Ok, I'm confused. So are we in the film industry even meant to bother getting our films censored? Or work according to their guidelines? Offended by a film or its contents? simple solution...don't buy the ticket to see the film? Let the audience decide for themselves.'
Farhan Akhtar: 'Apart from harassing the film maker, isn't the ban of #Vishwaroopam ridiculing the CBFC? Should their authority not be protected? And if their decision cannot be upheld, why subject film makers to this review?'
Soha Ali Khan: 'If we keep banning and censoring how can we hope to mature as citizens? We need to speak without fear and we need to listen without fear. Laws too easily curtail freedom of speech, groups are too easily 'hurt' and file complaints and a sensationalist media fans the fire.'
Anupam Kher: 'As a former Censor Board Chief I strongly CONDEMN Banning of Kamal Hassan's #Vishwaroopam. We as People of India are Shamelessly SPINELESS. We 'The People' are responsible for our SORRY State. We are used to Slavery & taking nonsense from all. Mughals, Britishers & now our own. Kamal Hassan travelled with me to LA and kept talking passionately about exciting times in cinema in India. This is what we do to him.'
Karan Johar: 'a zone of shame for a sham of a political scenario....Kamal Haasan needs not only our support but fraternity proactivity.....like NOW!!!'
Arjun Rampal: 'It is just pathetic to make any artist experience what Kamal Haasan is experiencing right now. What kind of viciousness is this?'
Pooja Bedi: 'I don't get it! Hollywood films can name different terrorist organisations but Indian films can't? Kamal Haasan's predicament = absurd politics. Why would people that haven't even SEEN Vishwaroop be attacking theatres with petrol bombs? Just shows violence is political & not coz of film. Is jihad not a reality? Aren't muslim terror outfits not a reality? Don't NEWS CHANNELS cover the ACTUAL killings/bombings? Why not cinema? If r filmmakers were to make a film on pakistani schoolgirl Malala who was shot in head by the anti girls education Taliban would we ban it?'
Anubhav Sinha: 'Our courts deliver verdicts on a film twice in a day, and the FAST TRACK court for a nationwide concern is still discussing... When was the last time releasing a movie created a law and order situation? I know every time banning one did. #Kamal Haasan'
Shabana Azmi: 'The purpose of Art is not only to placate and please. It is also to provoke, stimulate and initiate discussion. TN govt wants 2 protect those who r 'offended' Im offended too when Im prevented from watching a film passed by CBFC. TN Govt r u listening.'
Riteish Deshmukh: 'Totally unfair-every passing hour the producer bleeds even more.'
Shekhar Kapur: 'Govt's weak response 2 fringe groups on #Vishwaroopam gives thm a sense of power tht will resonate beynd just cinema n freedom of expression.'
Sudhir Mishra: I can feel Kamal Haasan's pain
Image: Kamal Haasan in VishwaroopamFilmmaker Sudhir Mishra, who faced a similar situation for his critically-acclaimed film Dharavi in 1992, says that he understands Kamal Haasan's pain.
'I can feel Kamal Hasans pain. D same thing happenned to my film Dharavi in 1992. In those days Dharavi got a unheard of (for parallel cinema ) 6 theatre release. It was pulled out of cinemas in a week,' he tweeted.
As a result, he didn't get to make a film for four years. 'After Dharavi I didn't get to make a film for four years till my brothers Amit Khanna n Mahesh bhatt produced Is Raat ki Subah Naheen. That's why v shud all stand alongside Kamal. It cud b your turn tomorrow,' he added.
Shruti Haasan: My father is one of my greatest inspirations
Image: Shruti and Kamal HaasanActress Shruti Haasan is saddened by the controversy surrounding her father Kamal Haasan's film Vishwaroopam.
'I've had the privilege of being born into an artistic family and my father is one of my greatest inspirations as an artist. its so saddening for me to see this day as a daughter and an artist where someone isn't allowed to put out their work and isn't allowed the basic freedom and respect that should be granted to any artist.love you bapu ..we are with you,' she tweeted.
R Madhavan also condemned the ban. 'I am sad that My Tamil Nadu has become such a laughing stock the world over. Considered the icon of cultural finness and home to the finest artist and tech in the world, today I see all that tantamount to nothing. all who have seen the film agree there is nothing portraying my brothers in bad light nor any religion. why are we in TN bringing the monster of Communal disharmony to our doorstep. I have with my own eyes. The devastation this can wreck in ones lives, as a youngster in Bihar. The legacy of this plague spell years and years of distrust and hate. And violence and pain. Resist this at all cost.sweep it away and smother it before the flame burns to hot to make any sense,' he wrote.
'Vishwroopam is not just a film anymore. Its a symbol of what is right and Right should prevail over might or we are never going to be a progressive peaceful Nation. I bleed for you Kamal Sir,' he added.
