The best of Madhuri

Lots has been said about her 1000-watt smile and fine dancing prowess. Or her enviable success in super-hits like Tezaab, Ram Lakhan, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun or inspiring act in Mrityudand, Pukar, Dil, Beta, Khal Nayak, Dil To Pagal Hai and Devdas.

You can count on her to be the best thing about the most awful of movies -- Mohabbat, Arzoo or Yaarana.

And even if her comeback, Aaja Nachle wasn't a box-office whopper, it certainly was heartening to see the beautiful actress at it again.

Take a bow, Madhuri Dixit-Nene.

The actress who turns 41 on May 15, was recently bestowed with the prestigious Padam Shri honours for her contribution to Indian cinema.

Wish Her!

While we all go ga-ga over her famous performances, there are a handful of lesser-known films in which she excelled just as well. rediff.com celebrates Madhuri's best work from this unrecognised lot.

Sangeet

In K Vishwanath's emotional drama, Madhuri plays a double role of an middle-aged melancholic mother and her illegitimate blind daughter who is a dancer.

The actress delivered the dissimilitude with astonishing cleverness, applying restraint to the mother and infusing a sense of anxiety into the daughter.

Leisurely paced and uncompromising in its poignancy, Sangeet didn't do well at the BO.
