Lyricist Gulshan Bawra dies at 72

Popular Hindi movie lyricist Gulshan Bawra who wrote the lyrics for the songs 'Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi' (Zanjeer) for which he won a Filmfare award, and 'Mere desh ki dharti' (Upkar), passed away at his Pali Hill residence in Mumbai on Friday. He was 72.

Bawra has to his credit about 240 songs, half of them composed by R D Burman, in a career spanning 42 years.

His last hit 'Le pappiyaan jhappiyaan paale hum' for Haqeeqat in 1995 was also a controversial one.
