Bimal Roy's Devdas starred Dilip Kumar, Suchitra Sen and Vjayantimala and released in 1955.

Did you know that the two actresses were not Roy's first choice?

The director had wanted to cast Meena Kumari as Paro, and Nargis as Chandramukhi.

Things didn't work out, and finally, Suchitra Sen and Vyjayanthimala bagged the film.
