'It is very challenging to write a script based on a novel or a short story'

There was a time when films were made based on literary works. Now this is no longer the case. Why do you think it is so?

Adapting a literary work is not easy. You have to read and re-read to assimilate each and every nuance of the characters. You need to be a good writer to convert written words for the visual medium. You need to work hard.

On the other hand, writing a screenplay is easy. If you look at the films made based on literary works, you will see that the characters have more depth and they are well etched unlike the characters created for films.

Aren't you sad that Sujatha is not alive to see the film...?

Yes. I showed him the script and he was happy with it.

Had he been alive, do you think he would have been happy to see his characters come alive on screen?

Definitely. Now that the film is going to be released, I miss him a lot.
