'I prefer movies that are artistically appealing as well as commercially viable'

What kind of films do you like to make?

I prefer semi-commercial films; the ones that are artistically appealing as well as commercially viable. I prefer the middle-path. All of Mani Ratnam films are semi-commercial films. I have chosen that semi-commercial path for Ananda Thandavam as well.

Weren't you sad that you couldn't use a beautiful title like 'Pirivom Sandippom'?

I was [sad]! The thing was, I kept the novel with me without registering the title. I was busy assisting Shankar with Sivaji. I never thought that anybody would be interested in the title. Unfortunately, somebody used the title and made a movie. But I am happy with the present title.

In the first half of the film, the boy and the girl meet. That was when the boy was first year in college and the girl had just finished school. They separate and meet again in the US. By then, the girl was married.
