Abhiyum Naanum is a very emotional film. When you looked from behind the camera, did you feel emotional at any point?
There is this scene in the hotel where the family goes with the beggar, who has now become a part of the household. After he starts eating, he says, this is the first time I am eating inside a hotel. He says that the child who brought him home -- Abhi -- is his mother. I had tears in my eyes when I shot that.
What's the best compliment you recieved for your work in Abhiyum Naanum?
Everybody is saying nice things! Radhamohan being happy is the biggest compliment for me.
What did your uncle P C Sreeram say about your work?
He really liked the film. He is a man of few words. As long as he doesn't shout at me, I know I have done an okay job.
Was he your inspiration to become a cinematographer?
Of course. Subconsciously, he was the inspiration. I have seen him taking stills... I was influenced on many levels.
When you told him that you wanted to be his assistant, what was his reaction?
He said no initially. When I was persisted, he realised I was serious. I followed him on the sets of Thiruda Thiruda and Thevar Magan. After that, he let me be his assistant.
