National award-winning director Mohankrishna's third Telugu film Ashta Chamma was inspired by Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. The well-reviewed film was a laugh riot, and a huge hit.

Mohankrishna spun a yarn around the heroine's (played by Swati) fetish for the name Mahesh (after superstar Mahesh Babu). He also introduced two youngsters Nani and Srinivas Avasarala in the film.
