Though we boast that we have changed a lot over the years, dowry remains a big issue among the middleclass and lower middleclass families, especially in rural areas.

Jayaram plays Benny, a diploma holder, who runs the franchisee of a local cable TV channel. He is a nice man but very ambitious as well. He had to shoulder the responsibility of the family after his father's death and lives with his mother, grandmother and two sisters.

Benny decides to marry Daisy, mainly on the advice of some of his friends, with the belief that he can buy a boat with the money that he will get as dowry. He gives advance for the boat but after the marriage, he is not given the dowry. Benny's dreams get a severe blow as a result.

Why did you select Kaniha for the role of Daisy?

I was on the lookout for a fresh face to play the heroine. Kaniha had come for completing her part in Pazhassi Raja when I contacted her. She was married and settled in the US by then but she was ready to come for the shooting.
