The Jodhaa Akbar controversy
This may not be directly related to Hrithik but his film Jodhaa Akbar faced a lot of controversy before its release last year.
Historians claimed that the film showed a wrong dipiction of history. An organisation called Rajput Karni Sena demanded a ban on the film, as they claimed Jodhaa was Akbar's daughter-in-law, not his wife.
Ashutosh Gowariker's film was banned in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand. When the producer moved to Supreme Court, the court ruled in its favour and allowed the film to be screened in these states. While Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand screened the film, Rajasthan multiplexes refused to screen it for fear of violence.
The royal family of Jaipur, however, supported Gowariker. At the music launch of the film, (former) Maharani Padmini Devi revealed that Jodhaa was a part of her royal family and her marriage to Akbar avoided a war in those times.
