Though Zinta fell in love with the plot twists in the story and the questions raised by the cobra episode, she said, she was not prepared for the next thing Mehta was telling her.
"Deepa being Deepa told me that she planned to start shooting the film after two months and it will be shot over a period of 45 days," the actress recalled at the Indigo event.
In India, the stars are signed more than a year before the shooting stars, Zinta explained, adding that it is nearly impossible to extricate oneself from a shoot. But Zinta was so hooked by the story of Heaven on Earth and what it could do to her career, she sought to opt out of several big budget films.
"I went to some of the biggest filmmakers in India with whom I have worked in many successful films and asked them to give me time so that I could do the 'other film,'" she recalled.
She was scared that some of them would get upset and she would end up making enemies. Instead, she said she was relieved to find them approving her choice, though a few wanted to know what she was going to prove by taking up 'the other film.'
Zinta confessed that while she took up the film because she was convinced that she will grow as an artiste, she was also doing it for an altruistic reason. The subject of abused woman appealed to her, and she hoped that the film could touch the largest number of abused women and get them to start a life affirming journey.
