Kay Kay Menon always manages to surprise us with his versatile acting talent, and his new film Drona [Images] sees him as never before. Here, Kay Kay plays the very evil Riz Raizada, who fights Drona, a superhero trying to save the world.

Directed by Goldie Behl, this fantasy film also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra.

Kay Kay spoke to Nithya Ramani and shed more light on Riz Raizada.

What was your reaction when you heard about your character, Riz Raizada?

When Goldie narrated the script, it reminded me of my childhood. This is a completely different character from what I have played before and I enjoyed every bit of it. A huge amount of money went into my character because it demanded different locales, ambience and a castle that looked Victorian as well as Gothic.

How was the experience of working with Goldie?

Wonderful! He is very interesting and full of interesting ideas. The most important thing about him is that he does not follow stereotypes. He is very focused. And both of us share a wild imagination!

Kay Kay in DronaHow was your experience of working with Abhishek and Priyanka?

It was great fun. Abhishek has a great sense of humour and keeps the atmosphere lively. Priyanka has done some awesome stunt sequences in the film. It was a great experience working with both of them.

Talking about the stunts, how difficult was it to learn the art of sword fighting for the film?

Very difficult. A lot of hard work went into learning it. The film demanded a lot of practice and regular training for the sword fighting sequences. But after rigourous training, we were alright.

Tell us about your look in the film.

The look was not pre-decided. A lot of brainstorming went into finalising the final look of my character. I actually did a ramp walk with different costumes and zeroed on what you see me wearing. Even my look, hair and make up involved a lot of trial and error. Goldie wanted a very unique look for my character and after months of mix and match, we decided on my look.

What was the first scene you shot in Drona?

It was a magic show. The scene gives the viewers an idea of my character and what I am capable of doing. It is a magic show where I do a disappearing act and other magic.

Kay Kay Menon in DronaYou haven't done too many films, and quite a few of them have not worked. Any comments?

I have no complaints. I do films that I like and they have recovered the money invested on them. I am happy with the roles I play.

What is it that you look for when you do a film?

The script. It should impress and motivate me to do the film. I keep an open mind when a script is narrated to me. I look at the production house -- if they are financially sound to release the film, and if they are good enough to pay me.

Do you think the controversy that happened during the music launch of Drona will give the film negative publicity?

I don't think so. I wasn't present at the event so I don't know exactly what happened. I had injured myself and so didn't attend the event. As far as I know Jayaji [Jaya Bachchan] is not the type of person, who will hurt anyone.

What next?

I have a few films lined up. After Drona, there is Sankat City, Stoneman, Aage Se Right and a film with Anurag Kashyap.
