Kinetic. Energised. Furied. Ecstatic. Drug-fuelled. Painful. Hardcore. Intense. Stunning. Nightmarish. Riveting. Seminal. Groundbreaking.
Trainspotting, quite simply, was a film that defined a generation. Ewan McGregor starred as Renton, a junkie from Edinburgh trying hard to clean himself up -- but it's never that easy, innit?
There's really not that much one can say about this incredible film that can do it justice, and certainly not better than what McGregor's Renton says in iconic voiceover -- 'Choose life. Choose a job....' -- as he prattles about washing machines while running for his life, the visuals frantically cut to Iggy Pop's awesome Lust For Life: it's one of the finest opening scenes ever.
Visual poetry. Nay, visual beat poetry.
