Could you see yourself getting involved in the Indian entertainment scene, be it Bollywood or music?
Yes, definitely. I'm very interested in exploring the Indian entertainment industry. I'd like to watch it and pay attention to it as an artist before I dive into it because I've seen it before, but never as someone who would be involved in it. I never thought I'd have the opportunity. So now if I see a Bollywood movie, I think of all the background things, all the things that they do, before they shoot, after they shoot, and what's going on behind the scenes.
Did you grow up watching Bollywood?
My father always watched Bollywood, so I saw it, but I never really understood it because I don't speak Hindi. But I'd ask him what was going on, and he'd kind of dub in English. I was able to watch it from that perspective. But I wouldn't necessarily be able to say what my favourite Bollywood movie is because I haven't been able to understand them.
Do you feel like you're more American, or do you identify with your Indianness, or is it some kind of mishmash?
It's definitely mishmash because people have told me that I have Asian characteristics. At the same time, I can be loud and American. And my mom is Italian, so I have that kind of loud, outgoing Italian side to me as well. But I guess I would say that I identify with both, in different ways. I'm not one thing. I'm a mix. I embrace that.
