Neene Neene is perhaps the first Kannada film that deals with the incompatibility problems in a modern family where both husband and wife are working professionals. The film has a fresh look and the complex story line has a touch of authenticity not seen in many other commercial films in Kannada.
Still, the first effort of actor Shivadhwaj as the director is not without mistakes and failings. Though he has tried to give a classy touch in narration, the script lacks strength in the first half. The story picks up the momentum only in the second half.
The first weak point of the film is its slow pace. Even the comical portions are not explained properly.
The story goes like this: Abhi, a marketing executive meets Nandu, a rich girl and they decide to marry. Nandu's father warns the lovers that marriage would be a different proposition. Trying to please his wife, Abhi lands up in a financial mess, and is heckled and humiliated by his creditors. It creates many problems in his personal as well as professional life, which leads to the couple's breakup. How this issue is resolved forms the rest of the narrative.
Though the cast has performed well, the surprise performance is from newbie Aishwarya [Images] Nag. Her expressive eyes emote very well.
Dhyan, who has changed his looks for the film, has also performed well in a matured role. Anant Nag, however has little opportunity to shine. Sharan's comedy is just passable.
Musically the film is strong with songs like Enu Idu Enu and I am in Love turning out to be chartbusters.
Shivadhwaj is ably assisted by cinematographer Dinesh Babu, who has shot the outdoor portions excellently and shows his brilliance in lighting in shooting indoors.
All in all, however, despite competent performances from the artists, the film fails to strike a chord with the audience mainly because of the poor script and very slow pace of narration.
