Rang Rasiya required the willowy actress to dress and look a certain way -- a young Maharashtrian girl with long hair, light eyes, waist chain and a nose ring. She also gained five kilos for the role since she had to look voluptuous rather than thin.
"My biggest help in terms of preparing for the role were Varma's paintings," she says. "All his 'heroines' have certain physical patterns -- the way they tilt their hip, the way they play with their hands, the way they look through their lashes coquettishly. He painted such beautiful and evocative gestures into his women."
