'There are hardly any words in the film that will go above people's heads'

The filmmaker also shrugged off comparisons with the epic love story, Mughal-E-Azam.

"We are dealing with a different period in Akbar's life which was not covered in that film," he says. "But we were clear about one thing right from the start. Our film was going to have its own personality -- and I hope it has plenty of it."

Given the film's scope, Gowarikar says he was not in a hurry to start it. "I told Haidar that we cannot rush through the film. We are making a film about one of the greatest periods in Indian history and we had to make sure everything looked and sounded right."

Even then, he did not want to have the dialogue in the film sound the like the speech of the 16th century. "There are hardly any words in the film that will go above people's heads," he says. "I did not want to allow the attention wander at the sound of words that might have sounded sweet but meant nothing."
