It is, apparently, a truly spectacular year for English cinema. I say 'apparently' because in 2007, the year that claims to have seen directors like the Coen Brothers, Tim Burton and David Cronenberg hit their peaks of brilliance, their films are yet to come to India.
So this is not a list of the Best English Films in 2007. That'll probably come just by the time Oscar season rolls around in a couple of months.
For now, this is the best of the big screen, the finest English watches that actually made it to Indian theatres. Here are five films you deserve to kick yourself for missing:
5. Ocean's Thirteen
In a year when every blockbuster franchise hit the number three and everyone from Spiderman to Jack Sparrow made us cringe, Steven Soderbergh and his crew did the trick with a fabulous, fun ride. Hitting the middle-ground between a fine heist film like Eleven and the utterly flippant Twelve, Thirteen featured George Clooney, Brad Pitt and the team getting the better of Al Pacino -- symbolic, perhaps, of the latter's career fading into overdone obscurity.
