Movies like Nandha and Kakka Kakka did go a long way towards re-shaping his image as an action hero. But as Sanjay Ramaswami, who's out to get his girlfriend's killers, he transformed into someone Tamil cinema barely recognised.

Everything, from his body language in the romantic scenes to his ferocity in the action scenes, raised comment -- and this was a role that came to him after many actors rejected it.
