Long Live the King!

The King left the building on August 16, 1977.

Elvis Presley was found dead at Graceland, his home in Memphis, of suspected drug abuse. Born to a simple God-fearing family in the Mississippi region, his was a rise of epic proportions.

While working as an usher at a movie theatre, he began learning guitar. As a gift to his mother, he decided to record a song at a local recording studio for the princely fee of $4.

The office assistant at the studio was the first to hear what millions would eventually learn to recognise as the Elvis sound. Eventually, all he would have to do was curl a lip to make millions squeal.

Elvis died six weeks after his final live performance on June 25, 1977. Almost a decade after his death, he was one of the first 10 people inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He had, over the course of an envious career, earned 94 gold singles. And yes, he set a few records that continue to stand to this day.

There are still a few thousand souls, who believe he continues to walk among us. Long Live the King!
