Funny man Steve Martin was born on August 14, 1945, to a real estate executive in Texas.
As a teenager, he worked at Disneyland, entertaining crowds with magic tricks and comedy. After studying theatre arts, he entered show business as a comedy writer, while perfecting his own stand-up act at nightclubs. A couple of minor films later, he got his first hit with The Jerk in 1979.
What most fans of Martin don't know is he is also a fairly successful author. He wrote a novella called Shopgirl, which became a bestseller in 2000. He also contributes to The New Yorker frequently. And, of course, he uses his time in between to keep us smiling.
