Kate plays the tough and compact vampire warrior (Selene) in the first movie Underworld(2003) about the war between vampires and werewolves (Lycans). The sequel, Underworld Evolution(2006) continues the saga.

Selene joins forces with Michael (Scott Speedman), a werewolf hybrid to discover the truth about her ancient bloodline.

Kate's other vampirish role is opposite Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing.
