The current season seemingly belongs to friendship -- at least on celluloid -- and about all the good things attached to this wonderful relationship. After Tyson (Rahul) from Happy Days, its Ganesh (Tarun) in Nava Vasantham who showcases what true friendship is all about.

For Tarun, who has been going through a rough patch, this film definitely comes as a breather. It gives him ample scope to prove his worth and he takes full advantage of it. Though there have been umpteen films in the past that have harped on friendship, this theme still holds charm.

Now what is required is the presentation.  First timer Shahjahan tries his best in this department and falters only here and there. But never mind, because it is a clean film minus the glitz and glamour. More a down-to-earth kind a flick. Had the screenplay been a wee bit tighter, it would have made for better viewing.

The story revolves around four friends. The director made a perfect choice in selecting the artistes who fit perfectly in the roles. Except Sunil, the careers of the other three artistes -- Tarun, Rohit and Akash -- have been on the downhill and this film is set to give them a reprieve.

Apart from friendship, the other aspect the director focuses on is the aspirations of the young that are most of the time throttled by parents, who force their desires on them. The climax has loads of sermons on this and the presentation of it is wee bit clichd.

Tarun is a lover cheated, not by his ladylove but by his uncle who breaks his promise of giving his daughter's hand in marriage as they grow in social stature. A heartbroken Tarun comes across his childhood friends. His friends have their own reasons to leave the village and come to Hyderabad. They want to make their dream come true. The travails faced by them in course of pursuing their dreams take a part of the film. But the focus is on Tarun who starts from scratch and helps his friends attain their goals.

Tarun plays his part very well and he is ably supported by Aakash, Rohit and Sunil. Priyamani as Tarun's ladylove has nothing much to do. Ankita makes her appearance after a long time. The comedy track gives support to the film. Sunil's performance as a mimicry artist contributes to a rib-tickling comedy along with Brahmanandam.

The relieving factor in this film is that there are no inane fight sequences. Music by SA Rajkumar is not so enticing.

Go for Nava Vasantam, it is a paisa-vasool flick.
