'Everything for me depended on Jab We Met's success'

Rather than celebrating with champagne after the great response to Jab We Met, Shahid Kapoor is busy working on his next film.

Girish Rao caught him on the sets of his forthcoming Kismet Connection. And in a freewheeling interview, Shahid reveals his father, the legendary Pankaj Kapur's reaction to JWM, and confirms that his relationship with Kareena is over. Excerpts:

While shooting for Kismet Connection, tell us a bit about this new film.

Yes, this is going to be my next film, and it's being directed by Aziz Mirza. I play this struggling, peppy character in the film who is trying with all his might to succeed in life. Nobody is giving him any work. Right now, some similar sequence is being shot. My look in this film is a bit different: I have grown my hair for this film. I have tried to do something different.

You waited for 6 months to finish JWM, without signing any other film, and now when the film has finally hit the box office and is getting critical acclaim from all quarters, how does it feel?

I am very happy, and I personally think that when the stakes are very high, or when you have taken a great risk then everything depends on this very film. Jab We Met was my next romantic film after Vivah, so people had expectations from this film. This was very satisfying for me. Now when the film has been declared a hit, things can't get better this. But the very fact that people called it a good film gave us a bigger high. People also said that the performances in the film were good. Now it finally appears that the script you had chosen was a wise decision.
