You mentioned that you had fun working with Irrfan in this film compared to Maqbool?
Maqbool was a dark film, and though I loved my role in it, I was tense all the time because of the darkness and villainy in it. But here in The Namesake, Irrfan and I were playing a couple trying to make a living in a new world. There was much affection and bonding between the two characters.
And you played Kal Penn's mother?
(Laughs) Yes, and we are almost of same age. So it was like this: After the shoot, we would be partying but the next day, it would be like, 'Hey Mom...'
But you knew you were going to play an older woman in the film.
Of course. And it did not bother me in the least. I have played a much older woman in a film in India.
Is there any danger of you taking off for another two years?
No way. I am afraid this time I could get very bored in no time. I am truly hungry for more challenging work.
