Jagjit: Yes, private party shows.

Roop: When you came to Mumbai, did you have any acquaintances here?

Jagjit: Yes. My friend Mohan Kottiya lived in Lal Baugh area of Central Mumbai. I stayed with him for 20 days and then at Worli as a paying guest for Rs 300 per month. It was at the Agripada hostel called Sher-e-Punjab, where I had to share a room with four other boys, where I developed a love for horse racing. In their company I gambled with cards too (laughs).

Roop: Out of the current singers who has inspired you the most?

Jagjit: (Laughs) You, Roop! Then there is Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan to name a few. From olden times, Talat Mehmood, Latabai but Pakistani singer Mehndi Hassan was from a very different league. He is the one who has impressed me the most. Then there is Ghulam Ali too, who is my contemporary.
