Grammy Winners, 2006

Mimi didn't quite make it.

Many felt Mariah Carey was the one to watch this year. The diva had eight nominations for the night, and there was a lot of hype about her picking them all up. The Emancipation Of Mimi was the bestselling album of 2005, and Mariah is on quite a comeback trail.

Besides, she has had a much-hyped 16-year losing streak at the Grammies.

So was it her night?

Not quite. The diva missed out on the big awards, but finally won some gold to keep on her mantelpiece: Best R&B Album (for The Emancipation Of Mimi); Best R&B Song and Best R&B Vocal Performance (for We belong together).

Consolation prizes, you might say, but at least they're Grammies.
