Chinthavishtayaya Shyamla (1998)
Starring: Srinivasan, Sangeetha and Thilakan
Director: Srinivasan
What the film is about: Srinivasan feels he is wasting his life doing small jobs and believes he is capable of doing better things. He starts changing jobs and even tries shooting an ad film. It flops.
His father (Thilakan) tells him to stop killing time and suggests he visit Kerala's famous shrine Sabarimala.
Sabarimala, Srinivasan discovers, is a wonderful place to hide at and escape family responsibilities.
He renounces the world and joins the ashram. But when he is given a load of work to do at the ashram he flees. On his return home he finds his wife has started a business and kids and dad are doing just fine without him...
Why it should be remade: We have movies in Hindi, which are either totally funny or complete family dramas or just action flicks. This intertwines comedy with a serious issue -- dealing with a lazy husband -- but it is a full 'time-pass' film.
The perfect Bollywood cast: Govinda (Srinivasan), Sushmita Sen (Sangeetha) and Om Puri (Thilakan) could be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
