Five great Malayalam movies Bollywood should make

Bollywood is heading to Kerala!

Quite literally.

Have you counted the number of Malayalam movies that have been recently remade in Hindi?

Hera Pheri (Ramji Rao Speaking). Chup Chupke (Punjabi House). Hungama (Poochakkoru Mookkuthi). Hulchul (Godfather). Kyunki (Talavattam)... The list seems endless.

The latest Priyadarshan offering Bhagam Bhag is also a remake. This time of the Malayalam film Mannar Mathia Speaking.

Shall we make the job easier for Bollywood?

Here are five great Malayalam movies we suggest Bollywood filmmakers consider remaking:

Nadodikkatu (1987) and its sequels Pattana Praveshanam (1988) and Akkareakkareakkare (1990)
Starring: Mohanlal, Govinda, Thilakan
Director: Sathyan Anthikad. But Priyadarshan directed one of the sequels.

What the film is about: A total comedy! Mohanlal and his friend Srinivasan both lose their jobs and decide start a dairy business. But that fails too. Their sparring for one-upmanship is delightful.

Jobless, they get in the clutches of an employment agent who promises to send them to the Gulf. They lose all their savings and get onto a ship headed to Chennai instead.

They bump into a smuggler (Thilakan). Thilakan mistakes them for CBI officers and is on the run from them. A series of comic situations lead to the arrest of the smuggler courtesy Jobless 1 and Jobless 2.

The movie was a runaway success. Hence the need for two sequels.

Why it should be remade: Comedy movies are box office favourites. And if Priyadarshan opts to put Akshay into the film, as he usually does, it will be a blockbuster. The script won't need much revision and the remake is sure to be a hit with comedy lovers.

The perfect Bollywood cast: Akshay (Mohanlal), Govinda (Srinivasan) Thilakan (Paresh Rawal). Could be directed by Priyadarshan.
