Satyajit and his son, Sandip, with a portrait of Ray's father, Sukumar. This photograph was taken at the Ray residence during the shooting of the documentary, Sukumar Ray, in 1987

Even as a child, Sandip was a regular on his father's sets. He would often accompany his father's crew during his school vacations and it was always 'a wonderful experience,' he says.

Sandip's first film, Fatikchand (1981) was based on a story by Satyajit Ray.

Sandip is now one of the prominent names of Tollywood (as the Bengal film industry is known). His Bombaiyer Bombete (2003), based on Ray's detective novel of the same name, was a runaway hit.
