I am of the firm belief that no amount of cutting can change the film.

Usually producers release films and after 3, 4 days want to make changes because the film has not worked. The editing that you do in those 3, 4 days does not change the fate of the film. If the film has been rejected it is because of its inherent quality which you can't change by removing length.

My original length for Swades was 3 hours 30 minutes but I removed 15 minutes of scenes and have put those in the DVD. The DVD has been released in America.

The issue of Swades is not duration, but pace. I can't change pace by removing duration.

Agar 15 minute nikaal do. the pace of the film will remain the same -- the pace of the Haridas scene would remain the same. I would not like to change that.

Do you feel that with Swades you have proven yourself because there was this popular perception that Aamir Khan (Ashutosh Gowariker and Aamir Khan, above) was the proxy director on Lagaan?

Nahin, I didn't need Swades to prove it. Even Baazi we did together. Do you attribute the failure of Baazi to Aamir?
