Aniruddh Parmar (Naseer) runs a school for blind children and does not let his disability interfere with his routine.

He meets social service worker Kavita (Shabana). Though the two fall in love, Anirudh has second thoughts about marriage, as he fears pity, and that his marriage may not work.

Sparsh, a truly great piece of work by Sai Paranjpe whose first film it is, makes it clear that physically challenged people do not need sympathy.

Naseer gave one of his best performances and bagged the National Award. The film was produced by director Basu Bhattacharya and strangely not released for a long time. Angry at Bhattacharya's conduct, Sai named the Farooque Shaikh character in her film Katha Basu Bhatt.
