Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black had an unconventional heroine -- a blind, deaf mute, played by Ayesha Kapur as a child and Rani Mukerji.
But Hindi cinema has seen such heroes before in fine films like Dosti, Anjali, Shor and the recent Koi… Mil Gaya.
One of Ajay Devgan's forthcoming movies, Main Aisa Hi Hoon, sees him as a mentally challenged person. The film, where Ajay's character fights a court battle to get custody of his daughter, appears to be a desi version of the Sean-Penn-starrer, I Am Sam.
Bhansali's first film, Khamoshi, saw a deaf and dumb couple, played by Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas, in prominent roles.
