Two kidnappers were killed, and a third mortally wounded. The remaining kidnappers returned fire. The hostages, tied up inside the helicopters, were trapped. A little after midnight, one of the kidnappers sprayed the hostages with gunfire. He then threw a grenade into the cockpit, which detonated. The remaining hostages in the other helicopter were shot dead.
Three kidnappers feigned death, and lay on the ground, but were captured. The final one escaped but was tracked down 40 minutes later and shot dead. By 1:30 am, it was all over.
