It is not every day that one gets invited to a party like Fardeen Khan's [Images] wedding with Natasha Madhvani. The party I'm talking about is the party that kicked off the celebrations, and was a gift from Fardeen's friend and designer Shaahid Amir.
Now, what does one wear to a party like that? I decided to wear the look recommended by Amir Khan himself -- a maroon silk Rajesh Pratapsingh blouse, with jeans and formal shoes.
I entered at what I thought was a fashionably late hour -- 10.30 pm. And I happened to be just the eighth person! Shaahid came to my rescue, and as I didn't know anyone at the party, introduced me to the seven guests.
I got myself a drink, and just as my fingers were warming the glass, Saif Ali Khan [Images] walked in with his gorgeous girlfriend Rosa.More on rediff.com!
Five Great Lennon Moments
First Look: Mallika's new comedy
Singing stars
Sundari Khan -- Fardeen's mother -- came in with a friend. She was dressed in a white gown, embellished with diamonds. She also wore dark glasses, because she had an eye infection.
Slowly, the guests started trickling in -- from Page 3 regulars to the film and television crowd. A lot of kisses hung in the air.
A ravishing Gul Panag accompanied by an equally ravishing young man added to the oomph factor.
Manisha Koirala [Images], wearing an indefinable combination of a poncho and kaftan (that almost reached her calves!) came in, and instantly pepped things up. Style diva she will never be!
Sajid Khan [Images] came in, complimenting women in a back-handed way: "Oh my god! I didn't know you could look good."
The colour of the evening was black. And the gold, diamonds and pearls made the night glitter.
The place was filling up fast by now. Most of the conversations I overheard began with the weather and how it has changed. 'Imagine, it's December, but still soooooo hot'
Fardeen and Natasha walked in at about 11:15. Natasha looked pretty in a white-with-flowers-twig-fruit print gown and long, dangling earrings. And, of course, Fardeen looked hot!
The spread was delicious -- Paneer Seekh, Chicken Tikka, fish, pita bread with hummus, Mouttabel
Everyone was in full form by now. The glitterati were now the chatterati. The flashbulbs had got into their act as well. Then, the clock struck 12. My party was over, this Cinderella had to get home from the ball.
