Up, up, and away!
For 1978's Superman, producers were auditioning for relative unknowns to play the part of the world's greatest comicbook superhero, opposite mega cast members Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman.
Then, for the screen test, walked in a six-feet four-inch young man, who decided to play the Clark Kent alter-ego like a young Cary Grant, while most of the rest still focused exclusively on the brawn of the beefy Krypton hero.
That distinctive charm, coupled with rugged good looks seemingly stepping right out of the legendary DC comic pages, already set him apart.
Then, he just batted his meteorically bright blue eyes.
Director Richard Donner decided almost instantly -- this looks like a job for Christopher Reeve.
