In the previous election, the Hindutva brigade selected 'desi beti' Sushma Swaraj to take on 'videshi bahu' Sonia Gandhi in Bellari. Unfortunately for the self-proclaimed nationalists, the 'videshi' won over Swaraj.

This time round, the BJP is playing it safe. The betis are being joined by ideal bahus as well.

Smriti Irani alias Tulsi Virani, the ideal daughter-in-law of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, has joined the BJP's rank. As political observers would say: 'An Irani to take on an Italian.'

Smriti's serials bring to her female audiences unstoppable tears. Let's see if the battle of the ballot can bring to the BJP as many cheers.
