A year of box-office surprises just passed by. While many big ventures bit the dust, some small films did well commercially. Except for a few films like Koi... Mil Gaya, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Chalte Chalte, most big-budget films crashed. On the other hand, some small budget films like Bhoot, Jhankaar Beats and Ishq Vishk more than covered their costs.
Critically too, 2003 was a year for newcomers. First time directors like Nikhil Advani, Sujoy Ghosh, Raju Hirani, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Ashwini Chaudhary and Ken Ghosh received more appreciation than the badshahs of entertainment.
Will 2004 be any different?
