Three wins for Way Back Home at MIFF

Indian entry Way Back Home, which explores the emotional and physical journey of an Indian couple to their former homeland in pre-Partition India, bagged three awards, including the International Jury Award at the eighth Mumbai International Film Festival.

Directed by Supriyo Sen and produced by his wife Rajasri Mukhopadhyay, Way Back Home was awarded the Golden Conch and a prize of Rs 4.5 lakh for winning in all the three categories.

Bangladesh's A Certain Liberation by Yasmin Kabir won the Best Documentary Film/Video (upto 60 minutes) in the international category. The International Critics Award was bagged by Bulgarian film maker Adela Peeva for Whose Is This Song?

The Best Documentary Film/Video went to Arun Chadha for Swayam. The film explores the role of organisations encouraging self-help among women.

An interesting tale of a relationship between people of differing cultures, A Seaside Story by Laxmikant Shetgoankar won the award in the Best Fiction Film/Video upto 75 minutes.

Raju and I, a moving animation film on child labour by Gayatri Rao won the Best Animation Film/Video in the National Section. Stolen Water, which warns against unplanned development by Prasanth Kumar and Daya, bagged the National Jury Award. 

T Poddar won the award for Best Debut Film as director of Khoj. The National Critics Award went to Praveen Mishra for his film Dharamveer, which takes a close look at communal violence. Vaidya Ratnam and The Chenchus were accorded special mention by the Jury.
