Her character bears strong resemblance to the heroine of the Japanese film, Lady Snowblood. She was a 19th-century swordswoman who sought revenge against the killers of her mother's husband. In fact, Lady Snowblood is said to be the model on which Tarantino based Kill Bill Vol 1 -- even the climax fight.
